Profile

Joana is a managing associate in the public law practice and has over 15 years' experience as a lawyer focusing on real estate and construction, projects and infrastructure, and concessions.

She advises Portuguese and foreign investors on real estate projects of construction and urban rehabilitation, particularly in the residential and tourist sectors. She also has extensive experience in urban concessions, public works and services, and use of water resources, and she has handled major international urban infrastructure projects in various markets, in particular, Angola. Joana also has significant experience in negotiating and implementing FIDIC contractual models in emerging markets and she frequently advises clients on regulatory matters, including in relation to geological resources.

Joana has a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto. In addition to this, she completed a postgraduate course in civil legal sciences focusing on the law of obligations at Faculty of Law of Universidade Catolica Portuguesa in Porto and attended another postgraduate course in building and construction law at the same faculty.

Joana also has experience speaking at conferences and lecturing. She has taught a on a wide variety of courses and subjects relating to public law and construction. These include public purchasing, public procurement, works contracts, FIDIC contractual models, and local holiday accommodation.

Before joining PLMJ, Joana was a founding partner of the law firm Cavaleiro Brandao, Pinheiro Torres, Cabral, Sousa e Silva e Associados and a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto.
